Silver Spring, MD – Knowing the importance of helping pregnant women manage stress and prepare mentally for birth and parenthood, the American College of Nurse-Midwives (ACNM) has partnered with Developing Hearts Systems, the Stratford, CT non-profit educational publisher, to launch the Mothers and Midwives Nurturing and Caring Campaign. The objective of this community outreach campaign is to help all women relax and enjoy pregnancy more while fostering strong bonds and baby’s healthy development.

Arlene Matthews MA, a former psychotherapist, and a college-level psychology instructor, offers workshops and seminars on various parenting topics and on stress management to corporations, schools, and health and wellness spas. Susan Fekety, RN, MSN, CNM has been a certified nurse midwife for 20 years and has helped thousands of women through pregnancy and birth. She currently practices comprehensive women’s health and is a lifestyle counselor at the True North Center for Health and Healing, an innovative integrative medicine practice in Falmouth, Maine. Though she closed her obstetrical practice in 2001, Susan made a vow that once she began to keep regular hours and sleep nights like normal people, she would work to raise awareness of the importance of whole-person prenatal, and particularly midwifery, care as an option for every woman.
